With the existence of so many worthy not-for-profits and charities around Australia, it can often be difficult to choose just one or two for an organisation to align with – not only in terms of financial contribution, but the contribution of time and people out of the office and “on the ground”.
However, every time that the CFMG Capital team return to the OzHarvest commercial kitchen here in sunny Brisbane, we’re once again reminded of just how much we, as individuals, and also as a team, enjoy donning the yellow aprons and getting hands on with the OzHarvest chefs and volunteers, as we take part in their Cooking for a Cause program.
The CFMG Capital stepped out of the office for half a day earlier this month to prepare fresh meals for people in need, made from “rescued food” – surplus food that has been collected from food donors such as major grocery chains, hotels, conferences etc but is still within its use-by-date and therefore still good to use.
Our time in the kitchen preparing restaurant quality meals resulted in the CFMG Capital team creating enough meals to feed over 100 people, and we were touched to learn that our meals were provided to Macedonian Meal Kangaroo Point – a faith-based community group that supports those experiencing food insecurity, including people who are unemployed, pensioners, those with mental health issues and those sleeping rough.
In addition to this incredible impact, our decision to invest in OzHarvest’s Cooking for a Cause program funded an additional 3,500 meals.
CFMG Capital look forward to returning to the OzHarvest kitchen again very soon.
