The last remnant of one of Queensland’s largest egg farms has been reborn as a boutique land development, with CFMG Residential Communities set to take the wraps of $17 million worth of new homesites at Rochedale.
The launch of the Mayfair Lane project on May 25 follows the acquisition last year of a 1.14ha site on Gardner Road from 81-year-old Robert Bone. Mr Bone has progressively sold down his 106-hectare farm over the last five decades.
Since its heyday in the 1960s, the original egg farm has been claimed by housing and industrial facilities, with the bulk of the farm sold in 2009.
The site will be transformed into a 17-lot residential development with lots ranging in size from 342-567sqm and prices ranging from $820,000 – $1,170,000.
Conveniently set back from Gardner Road, the Mayfair Lane enclave is just 15km from the Brisbane CBD and provides buyers with a range of flat blocks to build their dream home.
CFMG Residential Communities National Sales Manager Elio Iacutone said the transformation of the egg farm reflected Rochdale’s emergence as one of South East Queensland’s most popular new housing markets.
“The Bone-family egg farm was an icon of the area for decades but has slowly been swallowed up by the growth of Brisbane,” he said. “The chickens are long gone, and the site will now be home to 17 new families and provide much-needed housing.”
Mr Iacutone said the availability of large homesites and the growing prevalence of luxury homes were changing the face of Rochedale.
“Rochedale was not on the radar for many luxury buyers wanting that semi-rural feel until recently, but we have seen demand and prices taking off since 2020,” he said. “Rochedale is one of the last places you can buy large homesites with easy access to the M1, so we expect these sites to sell relatively quickly.”
